Built in the traditional Nagara style, the length (east-west) of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple is 380 feet.
The newly constructed Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 22 and has been attracting a large number of devotees ever since, has been meticulously engineered to withstand the largest once-in-2,500-year earthquake.
A huge Ram temple was inaugurated in Ayodhya on January 22.
A team of scientists and researchers from CSIR-Central Building Research Institute (CSIR-CBRI), Roorkee, released information on structural resilience after conducting a series of scientific studies of the site, including geophysical characterization, geotechnical analysis, foundation design verification. , and 3D structural analysis and design, news agency PTI reported.

Devadatta Ghosh, a senior scientist at CSIR-CBRI highlighted that the temple's three-story structure can withstand a magnitude 8 earthquake. The structural design was perfected after more than 50 computer model simulations to achieve optimum performance, architectural elegance and safety.
Ghosh also noted that the geophysical characterization process involved several processes, including a multi-channel analysis of surface waves (MASW) and electrical resistivity tomography, to identify anomalies, water saturation zones and water tables, to estimate initial wave velocities.
Notably, the entire temple is built using Banshi Paharpur sandstone, embodying a dry jointed structure without any steel reinforcement designed for a lifespan of 1,000 years. Specialized bricks with a compressive strength greater than 20 MPa (mega pascal), or about 2,900 pounds per square inch (psi), within 28 days of curing under standard conditions, have been used in the structure.
CSIR-CBRI also examined soil investigation schemes, foundation design parameters, excavation schemes and recommendations for foundation and structure monitoring.
The temple was designed by renowned architect Chandrakant B Sompura in collaboration with his son Ashish. Built in the traditional Nagara style, the Ram Janmabhoomi temple measures 380 feet in length (east-west), 250 feet in width and 161 feet in height. Supported by a total of 392 pillars and 44 gates, the temple has three stories, each story 20 feet tall. The pillars and walls display intricate sculptured images of Hindu Gods, Gods and Goddesses.
