As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, the construction of the Ram Mandir (temple) in Ayodhya, India, was underway. The construction project began after a historic Supreme Court judgment in November 2019, which ruled in favor of the construction of the temple at the disputed site where the Babri Masjid once stood.
Here are some key details up to that point:
  1. Background:
  • The dispute over the site has a long history, dating back several decades, involving tensions between Hindu and Muslim communities.
  • The Babri Masjid, a mosque, was built in the 16th century. In 1992, it was demolished by a mob, leading to widespread communal tensions.
  1. Supreme Court Verdict:
  • In November 2019, the Supreme Court of India ruled in favor of the construction of the Ram Mandir at the disputed site.
  • The court also directed the government to provide an alternate piece of land to the Sunni Waqf Board for the construction of a mosque.
  1. Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra:
  • The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust was set up to oversee the construction of the temple.
  • The trust is responsible for mobilizing funds and coordinating the construction efforts.
  1. Construction Progress:
  • The construction of the Ram Mandir officially began after a groundbreaking ceremony (Bhoomi Pujan) in August 2020.
  • The temple is expected to be a grand structure, symbolizing the birthplace of Lord Ram, a revered figure in Hinduism.
  1. Architectural Details:
  • The temple design is inspired by traditional Hindu temple architecture, and it is expected to be a significant pilgrimage site once completed.
Please note that developments may have occurred since my last update in January 2022. For the latest information, I recommend checking reliable news sources or official statements from the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust.
